LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES, RIO 2016 FLAG HANDOVER

The 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony broke down assumptions by proposing an innovative and unconventional experience. The solemn Olympic protocol introduced a Brazilian breath-taking explosion of joy. Driven by the contagious rhythms of samba, the scenography literally immersed the audience in a concentrate of Brazil’s culture, diversity and beauty. A colourful ensemble of musicians, dancers with fantastic costumes, and Brazil’s legendary personalities, that harmoniously reinterpreted their tradition and their mystical heritage. Together, the artists offered a moment of unconditional sharing where disable and able-bodied performers pushed the limit of the possible. The Queen Elisabeth stadium lived a unique Flag Handover, which undoubtedly dismissed stale convention. A thrilling invitation to Rio 2016!

UEFA EURO 2012 OPENING AND CLOSING CEREMONIES

Football brings together, like no other sports, people from all over the world to share values of trust, integrity and respect. UEFA 2012 particularly embodied this truth by uniting the two hosting countries Poland and Ukraine. The opening ceremony took place in Warsaw and the closing one in Kiev. More than 800 volunteers from 63 different countries participated to both. Together, with 1200 costumes, they animated vivid and colourful choreographies inspired by a simple element: the flower. This emblem of the Euro Games 2012, is the union of different petals, which beauty and fragility inspires respect. For the opening show spectators composed, in an impressive collaborative scenography: the flags of each participant country and once again the word “respect”.

JUVENTUS STADIUM OPENING TURIN 2011

A pioneering and engaging show that moved 41,000 live spectators and 800 volunteers, all united to celebrated a historical event: The Juventus Stadium Opening. A poignant inauguration suspended between past and present, nostalgia and optimism, pride and audacity. To celebrate Juventus’s 114 years of history, the chosen theme was the “flight”, a journey through time and space. Artists executed acrobatics and areal performances, while, on the ground, volunteers were accomplishing spectacular choreographies. The stadium illuminated by the audience’s lights, became a cosmic time machine. A vessel that gave the opportunity: to pay tribute to the team’s heroes and icons; to rejoice for the epic victories; and to share the grief of tragic memories. The high emotional charge of this ceremony has engraved it, in supporters’ hearts, and made the new stadium become their new home: “Welcome Home”!

MEXICO BICENTENNIAL MEXICO CITY 2010

An out of time location, overlooked by a dangerous volcano, the mystical Zocalo Square is surrounded by an Aztecs Pyramids and by the baroque cathedral of a city that hosts 20 million inhabitants at 2000 meters over the sea level. No other setting could be more suggestive and adequate to celebrate the bicentennial of Mexico’s independence and its values. 2 million people were driven by their sense of national belonging and by an incredible 17km-long parade with 7,000 volunteer performers directed to the Zocalo, where the celebration started at sunset. The Mexican tumultuous history and miscellaneous culture were interpreted thanks to the participation of the best national entertainment artists, which performed on 4 different stages. All together, Mexicans didn’t only proudly memorialised the anniversary of their restless nation, but they also honoured the fight against corruption, violence and poverty. The evening reached its climax when the audience and the entire nation shouted with the President Calderon an energetic “Grito De Indipendencia”: “¡Que viva Mexico!”.

NEW FIAT 500 WORLD PREMIERE

An Italian retrospective dream, from the 50’s to the present, preluded the new Fiat 500 World Premiere, in Torino. A stage and outstanding performances, entirely conceived on water, emphasised the dreamlike atmosphere that guided the audience through a journey into our collective memory. The magic touch of Fellini’s neorealism has made us eternally desire the iconic Anita Ekberg, aloof, out reach and bathing in the Trevi Fountain: “Marcello, come here, hurry up!”. On the riverbanks 100.000 persons lived that indelible scene and felt as Marcello the urge of jumping into the water. Meanwhile, time passes but the icons stay. The Beatles and Marilyn Monroe came on stage and paid tribute to the symbol of Italy’s industrial design and rebirth: The “Cinquecento”. Suddenly, we are being awakened from our dream: the detonations and lights of a pyrotechnic show starts; the music gets faster, the suspense rises; performers fearlessly execute action scenes. Finally, the new version of the iconic car appears above the water as an ideal of progress and technology, which soul staid unchanged for half a century.
